Over the last decade, municipal voter participation in Cornwall has experienced a consistent downward trajectory, dropping from 14,000 ballots in 2014 to just 10,166 in 2022—representing a decline of nearly 27% in total ballots cast.
When fewer than four in ten eligible residents vote, major decisions—from infrastructure investments, housing strategies, and policing budgets to property taxes and local business growth—are decided by a narrow segment of our community. Turning these numbers around begins with having a plan, staying informed, and making sure your ballot is cast.
Life gets busy, and election day arrives quickly. Studies show that voters who take two minutes to map out their voting plan—deciding when, where, and how they will cast their ballot—are significantly more likely to vote.
Creating an implementation plan eliminates election-day surprises. Whether you are voting online from your phone or walking to your local polling station, setting a scheduled time, checking your credentials, and adding a reminder to your calendar ensures your voice is counted in Cornwall’s future.
The municipal boundary of Cornwall encompasses several distinct voting subdivisions. For electors choosing in-person voting, stations are situated across the city—including dedicated sites like Viscount Alexander Public School, Sacred Heart School, St. Lawrence Secondary School, and City Limits Bar & Grill—to ensure straightforward neighbourhood access.
Electors eligible for advance voting can also utilize the central advance poll located at Cornwall Square. Remember that your official Voter Information Letter, mailed to registered electors in late September, confirms your specific subdivision, poll number, and accepted forms of identification.
