Viva Cancun and Laser Tag Arena to Bring Authentic Flavour and Fun to Cornwall

CORNWALL, ON – The Cornwall and Area Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to announce the grand opening of one of the city’s most exciting new ventures, a dual-concept entertainment destination featuring the authentic Mexican restaurant, Viva Cancun, and the state-of-the-art Lazer Zone Arena. The official ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on Saturday, November 1st, 2025, at 3:30 PM at 917 Second St W, Cornwall, ON K6J 1H8.

The new business is the vision of owner Osmar Amaya, who saw a unique opportunity to fill two distinct gaps in the local market. “When I got the tour inside the building, I saw the opportunity it has,” Amaya explains. “There are not so many entertainment options for kids and grown-ups in Cornwall, unless you want to go to Ottawa. For the restaurant, I always loved the hospitality business... I imagined the setup and how everything would work.”

Amaya, who comes from a family with deep roots in hospitality management, is focused on providing a truly genuine experience. At Viva Cancun, the goal is to transport guests to Mexico the moment they walk through the door.

“What makes us unique is that in Cornwall, we do not have authentic Mexican food. Cooking with our own spices and peppers sets us apart,” says Amaya. He also envisions the restaurant as a vital community hub. “I want them to experience a bit of Mexico every time, to feel home and a place for Latinos to gather, so they can always feel welcome.”

Beyond the dining room, an adrenaline-pumping experience awaits. The new laser tag arena is designed to be a "futuristic place" for both kids and adults to engage in friendly competition, offering a much-needed indoor entertainment option for the community.

Amaya’s vision is to provide high-quality local options so residents don't have to travel to larger cities for unique food and fun. “My ideal customer for the restaurant are the Latin people who want to eat Latin food and feel home... and people that want to try our food. If they cannot go to Mexico, at least we can go to them,” he shares. “For laser tag, my ideal customer are the kids and grown-ups that want to do something fun indoors.”

The journey to opening has been a collaborative effort, and Amaya extends his gratitude to his partner, building owner Naeem, “who has helped me a lot to make this possible; without him, nothing would have happened.”

The Cornwall community is invited to celebrate the grand opening on Saturday, November 1st. The festivities, which will feature a Halloween theme, kick off with a ribbon-cutting at 3:30 PM. Attendees can enjoy half-price nachos, participate in a custom challenge to win authentic Mexican liquor, and listen to the festive sounds of a live Mariachi band. The celebration continues into the night with a Latin music party from 9:00 PM to 2:00 AM.

Looking ahead, Amaya has ambitious plans to expand his entertainment offerings in Cornwall, with ideas for more party rooms, VR arenas, and even paintball fields.
