The History of the Chamber
Over 120 years ago, a group of prominent Cornwall businessmen came together and formed an organization committed to the business affairs of the professional community. Originally established as the Cornwall Board of Trade, its first President was John McIntyre, a successful dry goods merchant.
Today, the Cornwall & Area Chamber of Commerce continues that commitment as a dynamic and progressive organization with a focus on Cornwall’s growth and prosperity. It meets that commitment as an advocate for close to 700 member firms and individuals by working with both business leaders and government officials to create opportunities and to address issues of concern.
It is an advocate on issues of concern. It is a leader in matters of economic renewal. It is committed to making Cornwall a better place to work and to live. The Chamber of Commerce charts a course that combines over 120 years of tradition with a clear vision of the City’s growth and prosperity in the future.
