In the midst of summer, and with plenty of activities in and around our community, I hope you get out and enjoy the season.
Your Chamber recently celebrated an important achievement, one I would like to share with our members. We were a driving force in the creation of a unique, international Tri Chamber Alliance. The Alliance, one we believe to be the first of its kind in Canada, brings together Canadian, American and First Nations Chambers of Commerce in a dynamic cross border partnership.
The Chamber believes there are limitless possibilities for both area businesses and community economic development across the three regions. The purpose of our Alliance is to have the three chambers work together, in partnership, to bring those possibilities to reality. I’m also pleased to tell you that the Tri Chamber Alliance earned recognition from the Economic Developers Council of Ontario for its Cross Border Partnership initiative.
The Chamber’s annual Golf Day, held June 6 was deemed to be a success by the close to 150 area business professionals who took part. Speaking for the Chamber, I’d like to thank MNP (formerly CKDM), our Title Sponsor and our Super Sponsors, Riverside Dodge Chrysler, the NAV Centre, Union Gas, Farm Boy, Tim Hortons, St. Lawrence Pools and Seaway Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC.
I would especially like to thank the entire Summerheights team for ensuring the day was enjoyed by all.
I’d also like to extend thanks to the many local firms who donated door prizes or provided the many items for participant ‘goody-bags’. It’s this spirit of cooperation and partnerships throughout the business community and the community at large that allows the Chamber to present its many programs and initiatives.
Our final Pub Night of the season, June 26, was hosted by Alex Paradis and his team at Au Vieux Duluth and once again, a great crowd was on hand to network and enjoy delicious hors d’oeuvres.
Municipal elections, 2018. With upcoming election, the Chamber will be hosting a candidates forum on Wednesday, October 10. Watch for details, coming soon.
Besides the election candidates forum, your Chamber team and the Board of Directors are planning other activities for the fall season. October is Small Business Month and the Chamber, along with its partners, the Business Enterprise Centre and Community Futures Development will once again present Bridges to Better Business. We also hope to present both breakfast meetings and other events focused on you, our City’s business sector.
While we’ll be identifying topical workshop themes, we’d also like to hear from you, our members. If there are issues you’d like to see addressed, contact the Chamber and let us know. We welcome your input and you can reach us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
While Pub Nights are ‘on-vacation’ for July and August, Chamber and its sponsors look forward to seeing everyone at Schnitzel’s on September 25. Once again, your Chamber team wishes everyone a relaxing summer with the opportunity to enjoy some vacation time with family and friends.
