The Cornwall & Area Chamber of Commerce has received assurances from the RCMP that the inaccurate portrayal of the community in its Courage in Red television series will be removed. Assistant Commissioner Mike MacDonell acknowledged the Courage in Red portrayal “does not accurately reflect the reality of living and working in Cornwall.”
In a letter to the Chamber, Commissioner MacDonell expressed disappointment in the inaccurate portrayals and in some instances a narrow focus that formed part of the episode in question. He goes on to state that he has asked the Director General of National Communications Services to remove references to gunfire from all promotional tools including the RCMP and Gencor web sites, YouTube and television trailers.
Speaking for the Chamber, President Scott Armstrong expressed his appreciation for the Commissioner’s swift action on the matter. “We know Cornwall to be a safe community in which to work and to live and while the incident surrounding the Courage in Red episode was regrettable, I am pleased the Commissioner responded as he did.”
